This sympathetically restored barn conversion, attached to the owners home, offers visitors a high standard of accommodation in an outstanding location on the northern side of Glaisdale Dale. The Barn is ideally suited to Walkers and Cyclists with many interesting and historic places to visit nearby. A network of cycle routes exist across the moors and dales and step a few yards outside of the door and you can be walking through the heather on Glaisdale Rigg or enjoying the hundreds of paths and trails throughout the area. The romantic Beggars Bridge is only two miles away and from there a walk through Arnecliff woods will take you to Egton Bridge with its salmon pool and giant redwood trees. The North York Moors Steam Railway runs from Grosmont, just a few miles away, and offers a nostalgic journey through stunning moorland and forest scenery to the market town of Pickering. Also a short drive away is the village of Goathland, better known as ‘Aidensfield’ of TV’s Heartbeat drama series, where many familiar locations can be seen. The steam railway stops here too and,in the summer months visits Glaisdales' nearest town - the historic fishing port of Whitby which is about 10 miles away. The areas’ rich seafaring and smuggling history is much in evidence along the miles of heritage coastline which also forms part of the Cleveland Way long distance walk. The village of Glaisdale is less than 2 miles away and there you will find amenities such as the friendly well stocked village store and Post Office and a butchers shop widely renowned for its high quality meats and savouries, as well as the village pub which is very popular with Coast to Coast walkers. There is also a garage providing fuel and servicing facilities and the village is served by the Esk Valley rail service operating into Whitby and Tees-side on a daily basis. A daily community bus service also operates through Glaisdale village visiting many of the Esk Valley villages on route into Whitby. There are many local events during the summer months to which visitors are welcomed, Glaisdale Open Garden weekend and the Esk Valley Theatre are annual features and there are several local agricultural shows during July and August. We are sure you will enjoy your stay in the Barn and look forward to welcoming you to a memorable holiday. |
